The Schaumburg community is in mourning after a tragic accident claimed the life of 12-year-old Angela Guan on Monday evening. Angela, a seventh-grade student at Plum Grove Middle School, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Algonquin Road, despite the crosswalk signal being against her.
According to the Schaumburg Police Department, the incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Monday. A 65-year-old man from Cicero was driving eastbound on Algonquin Road when Angela walked into the intersection against the signal. The driver, who had a green light, was unable to avoid the collision.
Three people who were nearby immediately rushed to Angela’s aid and attempted to provide assistance until emergency responders arrived. She was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.
Angela’s death marks the second fatality at that intersection in the last month, raising concerns about pedestrian safety in the area. The police have stated that the driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. There are no indications that he was impaired, though toxicology results are still pending.
Angela was remembered by her school community in a statement from the Community Consolidated School District 15: “We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our own. Angela was a bright and caring student, and her passing leaves a profound sadness throughout the entire Plum Grove Middle School family.”
The district has expressed its condolences to Angela’s family and has provided counseling services for students and staff affected by the tragedy. As the investigation continues, the community is grappling with the loss of a young life and the need for greater safety measures at the intersection.
